A Bedtime Story, and Stretching Myself… ~Rhode Island Photographer, California Photographer

This year I am trying to grow in as many ways as I can.

Growing hurts I tell you.

This week I have felt those growing pains, but have managed to trudge through,

and pick up my camera even when I don’t feel like creating.

Like last night…

If you know me and my work, I am a sunbeam chaser.

I love using nature as my backdrop and being outdoors in my sessions.

Living in New England has given me the chance to think about life “inside the box”

~inside my home ;)

Last night I decided to do the complete opposite of what I typically do…

Rather than use sun, I waited until it was completely dark.

Rather than be outdoors , I was indoors.

Rather than use nature, I was in my son’s bedroom.

I used no flash,  just the available light- and half of the session was done in the dark with just a flashlight!

This was such a great exercise because I was able to step outside of my comfort zone.

I was grumpy before the session- feeling insecure and tired (it was bedtime!)

But by the end of the session I felt cheerful and happy and empowered.

I am so glad I tried something completely new!

All of you creatives out there, I recommend stepping out of your comfort zone! :)

Here is our bedtime story…

Sweet dreams….
