a chilly autumn day on the farm~

I know pumpkin patch time is over, but I never did post these here on my blog!

I did post a few of these pics in collage format on FB, but it was pretty tiny.

A couple of you wanted to see these pics a little bigger, so I did away with the collage and I added more pics here for fun.

(My sweet hubby even took the camera and had me get in a few! Rare for me to be in front of the camera!)

Its so fun to be able to take pics of my own family again! I was just so busy when we lived back in Ca,

I didn’t really have time to take photos of my own family the way I wanted to or very often.

Right now, life is simple in that way, and I am loving that feeling for now- its how I started in the first place taking pics of my loved ones.

(I haven’t even advertised here in RI at all for photography. Most people I have met have no idea I even have a camera!

our little secret :)

Don’t get me wrong, I do have the urge to take photos for others, its my passion!! And it feels so good to make people happy…

For now, I am loving this time of  exploration and freedom with my guys and the ability to give them my full self.)

Here’s a bit of our day at the farm…

*****

RI has a great website that serves as a pick your own/ farm and farmers market directory.

I have used it to find local farmers markets, apple picking, blueberry and blackberry picking, and peach picking and now this farm.

The kids didn’t want to go to any ol’ pumpkin patch this year, they wanted a real farm!

So I spent a lot of time on the web looking for a farm that sounded good.

I think we picked a great one! The family who owned it was so sweet, we were happy to be there enjoying their harvest.

*****

We have a had a great few weeks filled with family visits.

It was so great to see my mom-in-law and then my parents too.

(It was also sad for me.)

For the past 7 years since we have had our own kids we have shifted gears from independent worldly travels and adventures,

to depend on the comfortable consistency of domestic weekly family gatherings and casual BBQs back in California-

Where our kids play and you feel that unconditional family love.

Nothing can replace that feeling.

So when we had family visit, I was so, so happy,

especially watching my kids being so loved by their grandparents.

Behind the scenes, my heart was breaking, knowing that it would be many months before we’d see them again.

Now that everyone is gone, we are back to our simple daily life again,

and I am feeling really good that we were able to have them here and show them around and even experience our first snowflakes and then our first snow!

I feel grateful.

~LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT~

I am choosing to stay positive.

It is ever changing here and that could be challenging, but also that means things never get boring.

Just when you think you have it figured out – the season changes, the weather changes, your wardrobe changes, and the scenery changes and new things are discovered.

We are in a constant state of exploration and discovery- or so we choose to be :)

Coming from the huge state of California and moving to the smallest state is pretty fun. You can see so many things in so little time!

It takes forever to drive out of California, but only about 30 minutes to get out of RI.

We are taking full advantage of living here and soaking up the history and culture here like little sponges.

In these past 3 months we got to visit and travel around most of Rhode Island, Cape Cod/ Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, and New York City

taking in the history, foliage, beaches, architecture, and yummy food.

As fall wraps up, we are looking forward to winter sledding, iceskating, snowboarding/skiing, and a cozy holiday by the fire while the snow falls-

all new experiences for this family!

Rather than get homesick, I just keep exploring and embracing all that this place has to offer,

remaining grateful and open.

XO Shell

(PS. I am trying to write more … did you notice ;))
